Raw score versus percentile
Criteria's candidate guidance says employers receive both the raw score and percentile. A raw score of 30 means 30 correct answers; it does not mean 30 percent. A percentile is a comparison with the relevant norm group, not the percentage of questions answered correctly.
Percentile tables and employer benchmarks should be taken from the score report connected to your assessment. Avoid treating an unofficial internet table as a guaranteed conversion because norms and reporting context can change.
Why two identical scores can require different preparation
- Candidate A attempts fewer questions but is highly accurate. The main opportunity is pace and faster recognition.
- Candidate B attempts many questions but makes avoidable errors. The priority is selection, reading discipline and accuracy.
- Candidate C performs well overall but loses most points in one reasoning area. Targeted practice should come before more full tests.
The four numbers to track during practice
- Correct: the number of points earned.
- Attempted: how many scoring opportunities you reached.
- Accuracy: correct divided by attempted.
- Area performance: accuracy and time across Numerical, Verbal, Logical and Spatial questions.
A useful diagnostic should show why you received a score, not only display the final number.
How to set a realistic target
Begin with the requirements stated by the employer or recruiter, if provided. Then use a timed baseline and set a short-term improvement target based on the gap between attempts and correct answers. For example, a candidate with good accuracy may first target five additional sensible attempts rather than a vague promise to 'score higher.'
Treat any third-party target score as general guidance, not an employer guarantee. Hiring decisions can combine the cognitive result with experience, interviews and other assessments.
